Yellow Fever Vaccine
The Yellow Fever is a serious and fatal illness if the subject enters the Toxic Stage of symptoms. Yellow Fever is a virus transmitted by mosquitoes to humans. Symptoms develop around 6 days after infection and at first appear to be nothing more than Influenza. However, in the space of just 24 hours, 15% of people enter the Toxic Stage which only has a 20% survival rate.
The symptoms for the Toxic stage are particularly harrowing. They include liver failure, kidney failure, vomiting and bleeding from the mouth, nose and eyes. There is however a Yellow Fever vaccine to prevent you from contracting this virus.
There has recently been concern over the safety of the Yellow Fever vaccine following 6 deaths in the UK and USA. It is thought that some people have an extra sensitivity to the virus. The vaccine is vital to the safety of those in the tropical and sub tropical areas of South America and Africa where the disease is prominent. It is also given to travellers to the area under strict regulations.
It is still recommended that you continue to be vaccinated for this disease and you cannot travel to high risk areas without it.
